Plato Partnership and the University of Melbourne announce academic research collaboration
15th February 2022, Plato Partnership and the University of Melbourne have today announced an agreement to collaborate via Plato’s Market Structure Academic Research programme (“MI3”)
The Plato MI3 division is integral to Plato Partnership’s vision. One of the objectives of the Plato Partnership is to support and sponsor independent academic research to help stimulate the debate around the future direction of markets and help policy makers and market participants make more informed decisions.
The goal of this collaboration with the University of Melbourne is to produce high-quality research outcomes that can both influence policy and practice, and be published in leading academic journals. The strategic collaboration will hire a full-time academic researcher – a post-doctoral fellow - for two years. The researcher will undertake empirical projects examining European market structure and multiple short projects on topical issues identified by Plato members and regulators. This collaboration will enable Plato to produce academic research on important market structure topics, as well as respond quicker as new industry and regulatory challenges arise.
This collaboration is an important milestone for Plato Partnership and will compliment Plato MI3’s existing research schedule of reports undertaken by world renowned academic experts.
Mike Bellaro, CEO, Plato Partnership said: “It is both an honour and privilege to partner with the University of Melbourne and have their well-respected team to help Plato to bring further academic research to the marketplace. This appointment will be a dedicated resource to enhance an already well established and successful MI3 division and allow it to grow and expand and become even stronger under Carole Comerton-Forde’s leadership.”
Yazid Sharaiha, Plato Partnership Board Member and Head of Systematic and Portfolio Strategies, Norges Bank Investment Management said “The Plato Market Innovator division (MI3) is an integral component of the Plato Partnership and the reports produced to date have been of excellent standard. This new collaboration and appointment of a dedicated resource under the supervision of Professor Carole Comerton-Forde aims to enhance Plato’s commitment to academic research and strengthen the interface between academia and industry”.
Carole Comerton-Forde, Academic Advisor said: “I look forward to working with the Plato Partnership and overseeing the work of the appointed post graduate fellow. This is a very exciting and positive development for MI3 and builds on the University’s commitment to pursuing research that addresses societal and economic challenges and collaborating widely to enrich and apply our research. I look forward to a successful collaboration”.
